What You Need to Know about Kalooki 51

Kalooki 51 is yet another highly popular card game that falls within the group of Rummy games. This game is a very popular variant of the Rummy. Kalooki is very different from the original Rummy games, which is why it managed to win a player base all its own. If you love Rummy, but are growing tired of the same old games such as Gin Rummy, Oklahoma Gin, Traditional Rummy, and the likes, you should definitely try playing the Kalooki game to spice up your Rummy experience. Kalooki is different from these games in many ways. Its biggest difference from the basic Rummy game is that Kalooki uses two standard decks with 52 cards each. Another distinct feature of this game is that, unlike other forms of Rummy games, the game interestingly includes two Jokers. The Jokers are used mainly as wild cards, which can be used to substitute for other missing cards, and this provides an added twist to the game, which manages to pique players’ curiosity. Aside from that, in most other Rummy games, the aces are considered low cards, but in the Kalooki variant, the aces have higher values.

The 51 version of Kalooki is quite a special variant. In fact, it is the original Kalooki game. It is only known as Kalooki 51 to differentiate it from the other Kalooki game, Kalooki 40. Despite the various differences of the Kalooki game to the original Rummy games, Kalooki remains a true blue Rummy game, since it stays faithful to the main concept of what a Rummy game is. It still works with the principle of drawing, melding, discarding, and gathering points. But in some ways, Kalooki is actually a better game. After all, no one would have invented an additional variant of Rummy if there would not be a significant improvement to how the game is played. There are many benefits you can gain by playing Kalooki, but what makes this game special is that it can be played by more players than other Rummy games. Rummy is essentially a two-player card game, but other variants, one of which is Kalooki 51, wish to expand this particular aspect and share the enjoyment of the game to more people.

Kalooki allows up to six players to enjoy the game simultaneously. As they say, “the more, the merrier.” Aside from this factor, the original Kalooki game is also a highly coveted game because it poses a greater challenge than other Rummy games. It is widely known that Kalooki requires more skill and thinking, which means that it provides a far greater thrill and excitement than other Rummy games offer. Despite this, the game remains simple, straightforward, and easy even for beginners to enjoy instantly. This is definitely one game you should try!

How to Play Kalooki 51

Here’s a brief description of how this particular Kalooki variant is played. Each player in a Kalooki 51 game gets thirteen cards, which differs from the lesser number of cards received by players of other Rummy variants. After the cards are dealt, the cards remaining on the deck are placed face down on the table. This is called the stock pile, just as in other Rummy games. Then, one card is placed face up on the table, which begins the discard pile. In case you are wondering where the number “51” was taken, your answer lies in the goal of the game itself. When playing this particular Kalooki game, your objective is to meld your cards so that each meld will produce a value that is at least 51. Otherwise, you cannot lay down your cards. There are two winning strategies in Kalooki 51, which are Hunt and Going Out. A Hunt is achieved when you are able to dispose all your cards all at once. Going Out is a processional move, which occurs when you are able to eliminate all your cards gradually. Now, aside from melding, in Kalooki, there is what is called “building.” After a player lays down the first meld, he can “build” larger melds by adding cards to any melds already laid down, regardless of whether it is his meld or someone else’s. This move offers another way for the players to empty their hands faster.
