Rummy is not only one of the most widely known card games in history; it is also one of the card games with the longest-running history. The famous card game has roots that extend far back to the 18th century. This means that it has been around for several centuries and has managed to retain, if not to upgrade, its popularity. Conquian was a Spanish game first felt in the 1800s. This game is almost an exact copy of the standard Rummy games. In fact, some Rummy games, until now, still go by the name Conquian in Mexico. The game was centralized in Spain in the 1800s, but it finally reached the United States when the 19th century rolled along. It was immediately associated with Poker because of the similarity in the game structures of both games. Poker is famous for its groups and sequences, while Rummy copied the game pattern and simply used different names, which are sets and runs, respectively. Poker’s heyday back in the 1930s also played a role in the Rummy history. In fact, in 1930, Rummy was already being played as a variant of Poker, called Poker Gin or Gin Poker, whichever version of the name you first heard. But Rummy was too great a game to just remain in Poker’s shadow. It eventually shone out bright, especially as it became more known across the States. Rummy was finally introduced in 1941, its name taken from an alcoholic beverage, and experienced a great upsurge in its popularity until 1946. That’s why history shows that the Rummy is a local American game, baptized wholly in American soil. Although it follows a line of Spanish and Chinese games, the official Rummy game was indeed given birth to in the United States. |
